INTRODUCTION

Welcome. This is an inquiry oriented activity designed to help young people understand that they can help fight crimes against humanity by becoming informed citizens and and taking a stand to make a difference. Students conduct original research using online newspaper databases, write a script, and prepare a documentary that chronicles the crime and offers a simple solution for the public to take to help end to this.

As a tribute to individuals like Irene Gut Opdyke, we ask students to learn to take a stand to support those groups of people who may be harmed or killed today for any of the following reasons: race, religion, national identity or behavior. While it is not necessary to read her book before completing this activity, we highly recommend it. This project can easily be adapted to other books you might like to share with your students to help them understand how important it is to be actively engaged citizens.
