"The field trip makes history come to life.   I hope the internees continue to share their experiences with future generations because it is important to know and understand the past."
Trixi Agiao (11 th grade)

"The field trip was a great opportunity for the students to connect what they gave learned from their textbooks and classroom activities to the real world.   Personally, I believe it is important to share the internment experience and discuss the many issues raised by the wrongful imprisonment of an entire ethnic group because it is something that could very easily occur again in our country's future. All the guest speakers at the museum were impress by the maturity, social awareness, and inquisitive questions of the Fremont high School students."

Field Trip To Historical Japan Town in San Jose

On December 10, 2004, Mr. Wong, Fremont High School Social Studies teacher, led his U. S. History classes on a field trip to historical San Jose Japantown.   The main destination in Japantown was the Japanese American Museum.

The museum focuses on the Japanese American internment camp experience during World War II.    While at the museum, students were able to meet five guest speakers who had gone through the internment experience.   One of the highlights of the trip was meeting a veteran of the 442 nd regimental battalion,   a highly-decorated, all-Japanese fighting unit.
