This course is designed to provide you with a broad overview of the science of biotechnology as well as develop the technical skills needed by local industry. We will be focusing heavily on laboratory experiments with an emphasis on techniques currently being used by industry. |

What is ROP? |
|
ROP stands for: Regional Occupational Program. This program provides students with an opportunity to get some basic skills/experience in a specific industry related area. |

What is a typical day like? |
|
This class is designed to give you many opportunities to get basic lab skills and work experiences in the Biotechnology fields. So you will learn good, general laboratory practices with special attention lab safety. In addition, you will learn and practice the laboratory techniques unique to the Biotechnology field. Almost every day is a lab day in Biotech! |

How will I be graded? |
|

Attendance must again be stressed as a major component of your grade. If you are not here to participate in labs you cannot successfully complete this course. Attendance is critical! Participation in and completion of the experiments is vital.
?You will be expected to keep an accurate legal scientific notebook that will account for a large percentage of your grade.
?The majority of assessments for this course will be performance based and evaluated from the perspective of employer/employee. There will also be written tests and quizzes to evaluate accumulation of knowledge throughout the course. |
