He was in the restaurant/hotel industry for 16 years before he became a teacher, working as a chef in Colorado, New Orleans, Boston, San Francisco, and France, before coming back to the Bay Area. He is married to Jennie, a chemist (which allows him to be a teacher), and has two daughters - one an actress in Seattle, and the younger one a theater director in Portland. He likes to cook, read, play racquetball, and watch his beloved Green Bay Packers whenever they are on TV.
