Attention Seniors!! It is important for us to know what your next steps are after high school. As part of your senior check out you are required to complete the FHS Grad Exit Survey 2023 located in Naviance click on About Me and select FHS Grad Exit Survey 2023 under the Survey Section. The deadline to complete this survey is TODAY Friday, June 2nd. Failure to complete the survey may result on not being able to do senior check out or walk graduation.

Interested in joining the girls Field Hockey team next year? Come to our informational meeting today during lunch in the Dance Studio to learn more about summer practices and tryouts in the fall. If you have more questions you can ask Ms. Amick in the girls locker room office.

Come check out the Fremont Jazz Band, Concert Bands and Orchestras tonight at their annual POPs Concert in the Large Gym at 7:30. Featured music will be the music of Studio Ghibli and composer Joe Hisaishi. The Concert is FREE, though donations are welcome.

Last weekend, the Team went split-squad: most of them to the Quicksilver Invitational at Leland High School, and a handful of student-athletes went to the prestigious Stanford Invitational.

· At Lelend high school, Maelys Fraisse won the 100m dash to confirm her #8 ranking in CCS

· The VG 4 x 100m relay comprised of Maelys Fraisse, Anusha Chadalavada, Nina Behrens and Maya Chandurkar, won the relay at Quicksilver. Moving the relay to being ranked #10 in CCS

· At Stanford, in the 400-meter hurdles, Kathir Balakrishnan came in 2nd, while running the 5th fastest high school time in the United States this year

· CCS #4 ranked high jumper, Hayley Johnson came in the 7th at the prestigious Stanford meet

· The CCS #6 ranked 4x 400m relay of Fabian Oduk, Zeke Carder, Leland Nguyen and Kathir Balakrishnan, ran into some exchange obstructions, but no one was injured. They still finished in the middle of the pack for all relay teams.

· At Lelend high school, Maelys Fraisse won the 100m dash to confirm her #8 ranking in CCS

Bonjour! Saturday was April 1st and in France it is known as Poisson d'avril (pronounced PWAH-SON DAH-VREEL) or April Fish. All over France, people had fun fooling their friends with the popular trick of sticking paper fish on their friends' backs. Today, French Club is bringing the pranks to FHS in celebration of Poisson d'avril! Fremont Track & Field concluded the regular season yesterday with a double-dual against Cupertino and Monta Vista. The Varsity boys beat both schools, the Varsity girls beat Cupertino, but lost to the larger Monta Vista squad. Although Monta Vista was one of the 41 high schools the Varsity Girls outscored last weekend in winning the Cupertino/DeAnza College invitational.

Notable performances:
Kathir Balakrishnan moves to #1 in CCS for 200m dash, running 21.75, and ties for #3 in CCS for the 100 meters in 10.78.
Maelys Fraise maintained her #6 CCS ranking in the 100 meters with a 12.47, and moved to #8 in the 200 with her 25.98.
Hayley Johnson continues to rule dual meet competitions in the High Jump, verifying her #4 ranking in CCS.
The Varsity girls 4x 100 meter relay continues to be undefeated in the El Camino Division. The Varsity Girls 4x1 team of Maelys Fraise, Anusha Chadalavada, Nina Behrens and Maya Chandurkar, is currently ranked in the top-10 sprint relays of CCS.
The Varsity boys throwers of Antonio Gallegos-Lynch, Jack Lehto and Ryan Lehto swept yesterdays shot put, while Aiden Guzman closed the door on both Monta Vista and Cupertino by winning the discus.
Distance captain and CCS Cross Country contender, Isaac Tiscareno, scored key points by winning or placing across 4-events; the 1600, the 800, the 300 meter hurdles and the 3200 run.

Over the weekend, Fremont Track & Field competed against 28 other high schools at the Gilroy Classic Invitational. The Varsity Boys came in 3rd over-all and the Varsity girls came in 7th.

Event winners were CCS High Jump leader, Haley Johnson. Kathir Balakrishnan, currently 2nd in CCS and 6th in the state in the 300m hurdles, won the event. Maelys Fraisse, won the 100 meter dash, Isaac Tiscareno won the 3200m run, and the Varsity Boys 4-by-4 relay proved their 5th in CCS ranking by winning the 4x 400meter relay in the meet. The 4x4 relay team members are Fabian Oduk, Jonathan Mases, Leland Nguyen and Kathir Balakrishnan, The Firebird Relays will be here at Fremont, this coming weekend.

Event winners were CCS High Jump leader, Haley Johnson. Kathir Balakrishnan, currently 2nd in CCS and 6th in the state in the 300m hurdles, won the event. Maelys Fraisse, won the 100 meter dash, Isaac Tiscareno won the 3200m run, and the Varsity Boys 4-by-4 relay proved their 5th in CCS ranking by winning the 4x 400meter relay in the meet. The 4x4 relay team members are Fabian Oduk, Jonathan Mases, Leland Nguyen and Kathir Balakrishnan, The Firebird Relays will be here at Fremont, this coming weekend.

Winter Formal Tickets are now available! Formal will be held on December 22nd (the last day of Finals) at Villa Ragusa in Campbell. Only 500 tickets will be sold, and prices go up after today (they're $35 with an ASB Card and $40 without, and will go up by $5 tomorrow). Make sure to bring your signed permission slip when you buy to Mrs. Moyoli in the ASB Office during lunch.

It's Stress-Less week! Each day we’ll have an activity for students to help try to make preparation for Finals a little easier. ALL activities are free and fun so please come out and participate. We'll be by the cafeteria (unless otherwise noted) each day!

The Cupertino Middle School PTO is looking for high school students interested in volunteering at our annual Fall Family Night. The event will happen on Oct 14, 5pm-7pm at CMS. Fall Family Night is an all-community event, and the theme this year is International Cultures. Volunteer jobs range from setting up tables, to helping distribute food, running activities like face painting, henna tattoos, and games. Congratulations to both the boys and girls varsity water polo teams for sweeping Monta Vista. The boys won 16-8 as Alex Szewczyk continued his amazing season by getting his 40th goal in only 6 games. The boys maintain a perfect 6-0 record in league play. The girls dominated Monta Vista 14-5 and continue to be a force in league play and have their sights set on a second consecutive CCS appearance.

Sunnyvale Youth Public Policy Institute is group of middle and high school students working towards making changes and improving current social issues. They currently have a total of 5 commissions for students: Environmental, Mental Health, Social Justice, Senior Advocacy, and Awareness Action Reform. They are looking to support students who are passionate towards making changes! For the year of 21-22, they implemented the HAERT program in Lynbrook high, and one of the commissions (AAR) has been featured in Homestead and Fremont high, informing students about sexual misconducts. Congratulations to the Fremont Winter Percussion for taking 3rd place in their division and receiving the Bronze medal at the CCGC Championships on Saturday. The library is hosting a Spoken Word Poetry virtual open mic today during Flex. We'll be showing video of some of the best Spoken Word artists in the world. Flex is still open to those that need to study but the video will be loud. Come check it out, you'll be glad that you did.

Congratulations to Fremont’s Future Business Leaders of America Club. Fremont’s FBLA qualified 40 students for the State FBLA Leadership Competition which was held in Ontario, CA April 7-10. Of these 40 students, 15 qualified for the chance to attend the National Leadership Competition which will be held in Chicago, Illinois June 27-July 2nd.

Attention all French Club members, be sure to check your school email for a message from our Vice-President regarding required final end of year steps for all club members. (This is to make sure that you get your pins!) It is time sensitive so be on the lookout for the email. For French Honors Society members only, the deadline to turn in your dues is this Friday at 3 PM. There will be no exceptions. Madame Rich will collect your dues in room C111. The French Honors Society is officially called the Société Honoraire de Français or SHF to clear up any confusion. The dues are $10 for returning members and $15 for new members. For your second semester hours, you must have a minimum of 4 hours. 2 of these hours must be from French specific tutoring and 2 of these hours can come from community service or more tutoring. Hours are due by May 27. If you need the hours form or have any other questions, email me at qseghers095@student.fuhsd.org. Good morning Fremont, this is Principal Emmert. As you know, yesterday Fremont was impacted by threats made against the school. I want to thank both students and staff for taking the evacuation seriously and doing it quickly and effectively. SDPS commended the school for the way this was handled. Had this been a real emergency, it is good to know our ability as a school to be able to react so well. Thank you to all of the students who shared information with the school yesterday so that we could investigate further. We are most effective as a school when we all work together for the collaborative good. Following up on the events from yesterday, SDPS will be in and around our campus to help quell fears and ensure that things can return to normal. It’s Election Day! You’ll be selecting who you want to help plan and lead the school’s various initiatives, rallies, games, and more. Be thoughtful about your choices, as they’ll have a big impact on the school.

Note: Seniors, you're of course not voting tomorrow since you won't be on campus next year :)

For everyone else, you’ll be voting in two elections:

1) Your Class Cabinet, who will make decisions for your class on things like Homecoming theme, how to spend and raise funds, charity events, prom details (if applicable), rally and lunch activity games and participants, and more. Remember: this is for next year’s Cabinet, so if you’re currently a Freshman, you’ll be voting for Sophomore Cab, and so on.

2) ASB Cabinet, who will help lead all schoolwide activities, regardless of class

Attention all potential football players! Fremont will hold a football combine on Monday, April 4th, on the football field, after school. Events will include pro-shuttle run, 40-yard dash, bench press, farmer’s walk, and vertical jump. Cleats are recommended, but not required. This event is mandatory for anyone who intends on playing football next season. If you have any questions, see coach Swartz in room 83.

Civil Air Patrol is a community program and is an official auxiliary to the US Air Force. It has three missions: Emergency Services, Cadet Programs, and Aerospace Education. Emergency Services includes assisting local first responders with emergency operations, helping government organizations with natural disaster relief, locating downed aircraft, and community service. Cadet programs consist of leadership, physical fitness, and military-style drill training. Aerospace Education involves teaching STEM concepts to our community and numerous activities relating to that, including flight training! Members get free piloting and flight instruction opportunities, 5 in our squadron’s airplane and 5 in a glider.
Our local squadron, based out of Palo Alto Airport, is now recruiting new cadets. We meet every Tuesday night from 1900 to 2100, and tomorrow, March 29th , we are hosting an informational session for prospective cadets. "Hi Firebirds! Fremont FBLA will be hosting a school-wide clothing drive next week from January 31st to February 4th with clothing collection boxes in A-216, Mr. Eeg's room. We will be donating all clothes received to Hope Services Thrift Stores, which will help Hope Services raise money to support their services and programs for people with developmental disabilities in our community. Be sure to drop off your new or lightly used clothing in A-216 to support a good cause!"

Yesterday, January 30th was Fred Korematsu Day of Civil Liberties and Day of the Constitution. When Japanese American Fred Korematsu– a 23-year-old welder born in Oakland to Japanese immigrant parents– refused to comply with the order to report to an evacuation center to later be sent to an incarceration camp, he was arrested for his defiance. His defiance led to a historic test of liberty and an infamous Supreme Court precedent that still looms over American law today. While many Japanese Americans believed that they would prove their patriotism by complying with incarceration orders, researchers from UCLA have been gathering oral histories that offer a counter-narrative, one of resistance and insubordination in the camps, from acts of civil disobedience to coordinated uprisings. Fred Korematsu was not alone in his resistance to the civil rights violations from the US government during WWII. The American Civil Liberties Union used Korematsu’s resistance as a test case. Unfortunately the Court allowed exclusion and incarceration in times of “emergency and peril” and upheld Korematsu’s conviction. In 1981 researchers discovered that the U.S. government had presented false information to the Supreme Court in Korematsu’s case while also suppressing intelligence findings about Japanese-Americans’ loyalty to the country. Korematsu then became a civil rights advocate. January 30th is now Fred Korematsu Day to commemorate his civil rights activism, the first such commemoration for an Asian American in the US.

Will you be the first in your family to attend college? We are now accepting applications for the Foothill Firebird Academy, an early college program for first-generation students interested in completing college credits towards a career pathway. Tuition and materials are free! Join us for the info meeting held TODAY during FLEX, in the College and Career Center. Hi Firebirds! Fremont FBLA will be extending their school-wide clothing drive until Friday February 18. Clothing collection boxes are in A-216, Mr. Eeg's room. We will be donating all clothes received to Hope Services Thrift Stores, which will help Hope Services raise money to support their programs for people with developmental disabilities. Be sure to drop off your new or lightly used clothing in A-216 to support a good cause!
