Rules of Participation

Attendance:

  • We do not cut student-athletes from the team based on performance. However, we will cut them for disrespecting teammates, staff, officials or for low attendance. Less than 90% workout-attendance will be cause for removal from the team. There are plenty of extra point opportunities. The student-athlete must be at 90% or above by SCVAL #3, in order to receive credit for the sport / season.

  • It is expected that all student athletes attend every practice, weekday and weekend meets. There are no excused absences: if the student-athlete is sick or on a family trip, they are not training. There are plenty obvious opportunities for extra training % points: the student-athlete has multiple opportunities to be above expected percentage

    • Certain hard workouts, Friday practices and Saturday meets count as 2-for-1 attendance days.

    • Scheduled workouts during school breaks and holidays count towards extra attendance.

    • Weekday and weekend meets count as 2-for-2 days. Meaning, if you miss the meet, it’s the same as missing two days.

  • If the student-athlete cannot make one or more of the listed track meets, please bring a list of the meets that will be missed, to practice, two weeks ahead of those meets. If the student-athlete does not do so, they will receive negative attendance points for missing these meets.

Sportsmanship:

  • Student-athletes, parents, spectators are expected to show mutual respect and trust for coaches, school administration, teachers, meet officials, parent-supporters, facilities and teammates.

  • Always show good sportsmanship and mutual respect towards competitors.

  • Failure to meet school or home academic standards will result in suspension from the team with the potential of not receiving credit for the sport. Ultimately Infractions will be reviewed by coaches and school administration.

General Rules:

  • Student-athletes should always drink water during the day and bring water to practice and cross country meets. They should drink 1/3 their body weight number, in ounces each day (E.g.; a 100 pound student-athlete should drink 33.3 ounces (about 1 liter) of water per day.

  • Students should always eat something for breakfast, and eat real food; not junk food, for lunch.

  • The student-athletes should always let the coaches know if they are hurting or injured.
